385 R 0 3 Number of total BikeMi stations in Milan metropolitan area. Each containing in av- erage 24 bicycles. The basic reproduction number of Covid when the delta variant started was of 5-6, making it very contagious. Number of days Covid strains can survive in plastic materials 5.4K Number of total BikeMi bicycles in Milan The pandemic has changed the transportation behaviour in many urban areas around the world. As a consequence, bike sharing has been affected due to the change we move and distance us. Although this type of transportation does not usually interact much with other people, the touching points such as handle and seat can still transmit certain diseases. The time consuming and price to keep cleaning personnel on each station for this type of service is not a feasible option. BIKE SHARING IN TIMES OF PANDEMIC PROBLEM
OPPORTUNITY Design a fast cleaning system that sanitizes the most important touching points (handles) Based on research, a UV sanitizer for each handle would be fast, A SANITIZING SYSTEM FOR BIKES 10-20K Approximate batch size for a solution (2 handles per bike) 120° 90% 5 min Coverage area of the handle should be of at least 120° to garantee the most impor- tant contact points Performance of suppression of most common pathogens of at least 90% Timing of sanitation: under 5 min 0 Little to no mantainance required to keep the use of bikes unaltered

01 — Moodboard

02 — Iteration

Iteration 1: completely following aesthetic and form exploration.
Iteration 2: based on manufacturability as well as real life constraints.
Iteration 3: The third one consisted on engineering as well as optimization for methods for production.

04 — Anatomy

X-ray of the sanitising head — UV emitter arrays and a perforated reflector in the hinged lid, the drive block and three emitter strips down the column, over the base plate
Exploded view of the dock — two head caps, two swept columns and the base plate, separated along the vertical axis
